She was a teenager with an idiot for a father, her family was in meltdown, and she was living in a house full of ghosts.  She saved herself and her mother from attackers, and banished Tate (augh) the second she found out what he had done.

I accept this is your opinion and to each their own.  But in my opinion, Violet was pretty much the best character aside from Moira and Mrs Harmon. 

Teenagers on shows often get a lot of hate just for acting like teenagers.  Like Dawn Summers on Buffy.

Same. I didn’t like Violet on a personal level, because teenagers are often unlikeable! It’s part of growing up. But on a character level, she was someone who had been dealt a terrible hand, and she was very smart about dealing with the various dangers that the house presented. For example, when Tate started proposing killing themselves, she did the “Sure! *smile and nod*” and then took off running for an adult.

I was especially pleased with the fact that she kicked Tate to the curb immediately, because it showed that she understood the gravity of what he had done. Fucking Tate, man.

Oh totally.  If I knew her in person I would be like “…okay, shhh.  No.  Shhh.”  But like you say, she had a damn good head on her shoulders and I love that.

Augh.  Tate.  Augh.  That’s all I have to say about him.  Augh.

The trainwreck that was Violet/Tate was great television. It was nine kinds of fucked up and I loved watching every minute of it. But ohh, some of those shippers…
